ABOUT
What are the 5Rhythms?
The 5Rhythms® of Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, and Stillness form ‘The Wave’, a simple movement meditation practice that encourages us to be our most fluid and creative selves. In Flowing we find our feet, in Staccato we activate our core and the heart center, in Chaos we let the great weight of our heads go, in Lyrical we tap into the lightness of Being to find our Wings, and in Stillness we surrender to Being in it’s purest form.
5Rhythms classes offer supported movement practice rooted in personal growth, transformational experiences, and community. The 5Rhythms® movement meditation practice provides unique tools to promote deeper awareness, intuitive expression, and wellbeing that translates into your life in profound and significant ways.
This class is a Waves level class, open to all dancers & suitable for beginners. There are no prerequisites required or steps to learn! We welcome individuals of all ages, experiences, backgrounds, and physical abilities, new comers and those we already know and love.
Waves is the foundation of the entire body of 5Rhythms work in which we develop our physical expression and knowledge of the essential 5Rhythms. This class counts towards the 5Rhythms Training Path.
Come move with us!
Sanctuary-a 5Rhythms flow class
In the 5Rhythms, we build each subsequent rhythm from the foundational rhythm of Flowing. We never lose our flow as we move through Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, and Stillness. We build upon it, our dance transforming as we go deeper into the practice until we land in Stillness, our deepest meditation. In the spirit of Sunday, in this 5Rhythms flow class, we will focus on the luscious, transformational process that unfolds when our only task is to stay in our flow.
When we put our bodies into motion we become waves of infinite possibility, forming and reforming ourselves in every moment. Sanctuary is an invitation to drop into the Wave and set yourself free.
Moving with the felt sense of the body, we are more present and alive Connected to self and to the world
Centered in our hearts
Aligned with spirit
Home.
This is our meditation.
What to expect & what to bring with you
In the 5Rhythms practice, you are free to explore how you move as an embodied being in a community of people involved in this same exploration. The modalities we offer have no steps to follow—just your feet, your breath, and the shape of your own heart. Don’t worry about knowing what to do. The facilitator will guide you. Just move, and the rest will follow!
As you do, take care of yourself. Go at your own pace. Chairs are available if you need them and you are encouraged to bring them out on the dance floor to stay part of the action.
Also take care of each other. Be sensitive to each other's boundaries and non-verbal cues. Always ask for consent before touching someone. Our common goal is to create a safe space for all dancers.
This is a movement class, so please wear comfortable clothing that allows free movement. We dance in bare feet or dance shoes (no outside shoes or slippery socks—indoor only dance shoes, dance paws and toeless yoga/pilates socks with grips are ok).
No scents, including essential oils, on the dance floor, please! Many people are chemical sensitive. This includes sage and palo santo.
Please bring water or a water bottle to refill at the water fountain filling stations and anything else you require.
And please feel free to linger after class as we clean up to meet the community & speak to the teacher!

My focus is on the core connection of feet and breath, this engine of the body, house of spirit, home for a beating heart and wonder-filled mind. Propelled by the question 'how", we enter each rhythm. Putting our bodies in motion, letting the feet lead, our core do the "thinking", and riding our breath, we find answers to other questions. By moving together our possibilities become bigger. The breath moves through us all, moves us all. We find our place and our partners on this journey.
